Experiment 6: Wind
Hypothesis: We hypothesized that the mealworms would play dead if you blew on them with a straw but wouldn't notice if you blew on them without a straw.
Materials:
-Straw
-Cardboard
Procedures:
1. Place mealworms on a piece of cardboard.
2. Blow on the mealworms with a straw for 3 seconds and observe their behaviour.
3. Blow on the mealworms without a straw for 3 seconds and observe their behaviour.
Observations:
With a straw: The mealworms froze and played dead; this method can also be used to stop the mealworms from escaping.
Without a straw: The mealworms slowed down but didn't play dead.
Conclusions: The mealworms played dead when we blew on them with a straw, which we had hypothesized that they would do. However, they also reacted when we blew on them without a straw but not to the same extent.
Independent Variables: Use of the straw, length of time.
Dependent Variables: Behaviour of the mealworms.
