Experiment 5: Favourite Colours
Hypothesis: Given the choice between red, blue, and yellow paper, we hypothesized that the mealworms would prefer the darkest colours (blue).
Materials:
-Red paper
-Blue paper
-Yellow paper
Procedures:
1. Place three equal-sized pieces of paper on the table.
2. Put three mealworms on the table and see which piece of paper they gravitate toward.
3. Place the three mealworms on each sheet of paper and observe their behaviour.
Observations:
Round 1: Place mealworms on the table.
-One mealworm went to the red, one went to the blue, one was curious about the yellow but ended up
going to the blue.
Round 2: Place mealworms on yellow paper.
-All of the mealworms immediately left the yellow paper.
Round 3: Place mealworms on red paper.
-Two of the mealworms stayed on the paper, the other one left and headed toward the blue paper.
Round 4: Place mealworms on blue paper.
-All of the mealworms stayed on the blue paper.
Conclusions: The mealworms preferred the blue paper but were also content to stay on the red paper. The mealworms did not like the yellow paper.
Independent Variables: Size and placement of the paper.
Dependent Variables: Behaviour of the mealworms.
