Experiment 3: Hot or Cold?
Hypothesis: We hypothesized that the mealworms would be drawn to the cup of hot coffee over the cup of cold water.
Materials:
-One cup of cold water
-One cup of hot coffee
Procedures:
1. Place one cup on each side of the shoebox.
2. Place mealworms in the middle of the shoebox and observe their behaviour.
Observations:
Round 1:
-They didn't seem to have a preference and avoided both cups.
Round 2:
-Still no clear preference but eventually went toward the cold cup and explored a bit.
Conclusions: The mealworms seem to prefer cold water over hot water. We wondered if the mealworms avoided the cups because they were white and too bright for the mealworms.
Independent Variables: water temperature, type and colour of the cups
Dependent Variables: behaviour of the mealworms
